Project description

The theme of the project was chosen together with the Chief Architect of the City and his deputy director. The desire is to activate the area around Oradea Fortress, using the parcels under restructuring, now perceived by the inhabitants as gaps in urban fabric. They are former industrial units with large land plots located in important locations for the city development. They are often completely unused spaces. The General Urban Plan suggests the restructuring of these parcels, the improvement of pedestrian routes and the need for a parking. After analyzing the site, it has been found that the social and trade life are concentrated in the western part, leaving the Under-Fortress area undeveloped. It is a flat area, which lacks of interesting places and activity nodes, the predominant function being housing. I have found areas with potential or beneficial for the fortresses (marked with green), and in addition to the dysfunctional areas (which coincide with the fragments of the site in question), there have been identified conflicts in the pedestrian flow; these are solved in the proposal. The proposal is generated according to the General Urban Plan and the Integrated Development Strategy of Oradea As the project's governing concept, I have taken over the idea of Oradea dynamic city. The intervention creates a chain of spatial events and activities; so there are centers that will draw the people from the south to the fortress (N). I have compiled a mini-catalog of possible interventions on the built environment such as additions, dismantling, shelling, re-partitioning, refurbishment; interventions on public space, such as squares, plazas, parks; transforming the street profile into the green alley type, shared space, pavement extension, parklets, velo trails. A catalog of proposed functions with a dynamic character, resulted. The aim is to attract funds/jobs, many age groups; run for as long as possible durring the day. These help maintain the memory of the place. Every site preserves and adds something and contains a high landmark for visual guidance.

My name is Prada Ioana Francesca, I am 24 years old. This year I graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and City Planning of the Polyitehnica University Timisoara. What best defines me is CURIOZITY. Since I was little, I was and still am practicing the same game: I'm following the situations that take me out of the comfort zone. For me, architecture is about people, not about ego. I believe that it directly influences our development, gowell-bring of the psyche, the body and also affects interpersonal relationships. It is a tool that handles carefully, can make the world better. Perhaps because of the context in which we studied and in which we live, my interest has focused more on space recovery, recreation/re-conquering of public space and urban acupuncture.
