Project description

The building found before on the site was a mono-block, build around 1995, that had structural and functional problems. For the new clinic to function at the right standards, the old construction had to be demolished. Starting from the different status of the property, the space was divided in two separate areas of intervention. The first area, belonging to the city hall, accommodates the entrance landscape while the second area, private property, is base for the new construction. Due to the close proximity of a three-story building and it's position on the corner, it was very important for the new clinic to have a natural relationship with the context, despite its height of only two stories. Therefore, the volume of the second floor is higher, rising until it matches the height of the neighboring building giving the new building more visibility and presence. The corner position was also an important factor that shaped the construction, determining an articulation between the two volumes and an openness towards the streets from both sides. The exterior is thought in close relationship with the street intersection and the possibility of entering the welcoming area from both streets. Therefore, the access area is opening formally towards the street, inviting the costumers inside and putting an accent on the main entrance. The interior design is modern and joyful, using the color pallet imposed by the client, in contrast with the sober exterior. The welcoming area is bright and visible from the street, highlighted in the main volume.

Text description of the author

Paul Feier graduated from the "POLITEHNICA" University of Timişoara, Faculty of Construction and Engineering in 2002, and from 1996 he started working as a collaborator and later employee at the architectural studio S.C. Artnova S.R.L. In the 22 years of experience together with Artnova, he is expanding his knowledge in the field, working on a vast number of different programs and interventions, from housing projects, healthcare programs to restoration of historical buildings. Throughout the years he participates in a number of architecture competitions and annuals where he wins honorable mentions and prices.
