Project description

CERAMFORM + GEST A lab that incorporates ceramic workshops, illumination deviced workshops, and furniture workshops, using up-cycled pieces. A lab including three rehabilitation projects coordinated by students of U.A.U.I.M. Three ceramics workshops. Three renovated restrooms from 2016 to 2018. The GEST project, developed by the I’M UAU team, includes workshops, conferences and exhibitions developed with the support of our partners. The goal is to rehabilitate spaces within “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism and include students in the process. Together with DELTA STUDIO we initiated DELTAPLAN, a system in which both short-term and long-term projects and can take place – theoretical studies, workshops or conferences that would eventually reform the current syllabus. The first step towards this goal was taken in April 2016, when, alongside Delta studio, we began to work on a project that aimed at modernizing the restrooms in U.A.U.I.M, Bucharest. Even from the get-go, we decided to use as many recycled ceramic plates as possible, as well as unpaired ornaments or pieces with small manufacturing defects. In the meantime we launched the CERAMFORM workshops. Students got the opportunity to experiment and learn about ceramic techniques, under the supervision of Ovidiu Ionescu. Roxana Bâra, from Studio Mud, helped as well. Afterwards, the resulting ceramic tiles were finished, fired and glazed at UNArte. Other students painted ceramic blocks or created their own wash bowls or lamps, using ceramic bowls. The number of participants exceeded our expectations. We still have remaining tiles to use in future rehabilitation projects. The GEST project continues. So does the collaboration with DELTASTUDIO and our partners.

I’M UAU’s goal is to encourage the direct implication of students in various workshops of object design,finishing,subassemblies, prototypes.The I’M UAU program includes workthemes derived from the direct cooperation with companies. We build; recycle; assemble. Objects. Situations. Systems. Spaces. 1:1 Scale. Connections. Places. A place: U.A.U.I.M.
