Project description
The project aims to provide an example for the revival of socialist neighborhoods, a context that is often encountered in Romania and beyond. The proposed functions and the spatial concept offers a space of creativity and transformation, and thanks to its flexibility it can change its use over time, responding to the needs of society. The main goal is to create a contrast with the densely built neighborhood, that’s why the question of the human scale is a very important factor, meanwhile creating a good relation with the two churches and the surrounding blocks. Exterior arrangements complement the community project, providing the public with new walking paths connected to the city and green public squares, right in the heart of the neighborhood. The community center is an area that encourages interactions between the residents of the neighborhood, strengthening the community spirit and providing both cultural and recreational activities. These activities range from group workshops, sports activities, courses, spectacles/ entertainement and other actions that lead to the activation of the community. They are addressed to all age groups, from the smallest, to the elderly and also for people with disabilities. Thus, the aim of the center is to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood and to provide its residents with alternatives for leisure. Regarding the architectural solution, the choice was to modulate the areas of activities, highlighting "THE CUBE", different modules connected through the multifunctional spaces of the community. This choice sought to obtain an easy-to-build, easy-to-use volume made up of local materials: wood and masonry. Thus, the inhabitants of the neighborhood themselves can participate in the construction of this center, enhancing their sense of belonging to something built with their own hands, made up by the needs of the group. In matters of functioning, the administration of the center is based on a partnership between the local city hall and the NGO associations that manage the workshops and activities in the center. It is managed from two thirds of its own resources, from the costs of certain workshops and trainings, and the rest is subsidized by local authorities.
