This has been a technical and poetical exercise for us, an overview of what nature and built space represent, but also a question about what traditional architecture means for us and to what extent it could inspire emerging architectures; an exercise that is all the more exciting, as we attempted to incorporate temporary living in the existing built matrix of the village, through qualitative gestures that compliment and stimulate the local. One of the concepts of the house is the different identity of the levels, which define the access in their joint area. The latter is placed on the side and is materialized through a covered corridor – a traditional experience that emphasizes the idea of space as an experiment. The main facade is a screen between the interior and the exterior; within it, there is a square subtraction that has both the role of counterbalancing the composition and of generating a ludic moment towards the street. Another aspect that sustains the concept is the inversion of the specific facade material ratio, in order to generate diversity within the same rule. Therefore, the local stone base becomes the most present element, the white plaster has a joining role, and the sheet roof supports the local specificity. The arrangement of the spaces’ functions sustains the idea of vertical layers: the ground floor accomodates the living spaces, while the first floor is mainly populated by night spaces. The circulation area is treated as an event in itself, due to the height and the composition of the structural elements that participate in the definition of the interior space. An important aspect is the definition of the interior-exterior relationship, related to the spaces’ functions, the cardinal points, the senses; it becomes total in the diurnal spaces through harmonic doors, respectively, unilateral through glazed strips or through the targeted positioning of the attic windows in order to create lieux: over the bed, over the bathtub, over the sink. The predominantly horizontal relationship with the exterior generated at the ground floor is transferred towards a vertical one at the first floor. In addition to this, the spaces arranged along the street are emphasized by sound too, as they are in a constant dialogue with the murmur of the nearby river. Natural materials have been used both on the inside and the outside of the house, which invite to the use of touch and constantly praise the ubiquitous nature: wood, natural stone and white plaster.Text description of the author
“We are here to witness our generation and acknowledge it; and we are here to sensitively design towards tomorrow.” Sinestezia.Studio is a creation platform, which embraces design fields such as architecture, optimization, product and graphic design, while experimenting with interactive and kinetic design mechanisms. The studio is based on the study and work experience of six young architects, undertaken in Timișoara, London, Breda, Brussels and Málaga, as well as on their work for design competitions, for which they have been awarded numerous national and international prizes. These include the Young Architects Award – Architecture Conference & Expo (2016), Salon Prize – 20th Salon of Architecture (2016), 1st Prize - International Engineering Team Design Competition (2013), 1st Prize – Archi-World International Academy Awards (2013), Honourable Mention – International VELUX Students Competition (2012), G.E. Foundation Scholar-Leaders Prize (2009-20011).
