The concept The starting point of the project were two different visions: The Fun Palace designed by Cedric Price and Klimt’s paintings of birch trees. By bringing these two concepts togheter our aim was to create a new building for the UTCB - Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest, that could house the existing elements of the site (the park) but also the technichal aspects of the school (the technology). Given the fact that the whole site and its surroundings are flooded by vegetation, we wanted it to become an important part of our project. We were inspired by the Danish landscape design response to the traumas of WW2, where exterior garden-rooms where treated as an equal and important part of the whole architectural discourse. Bucharest in a similar way is experiencing a destructured way of growing, caused by the economical and political circumstances from the last 25 years. We propose a project where nature with its gardens becomes an important part of the architectural disourse.Text description of the author
