Project description

Created with the purpose of facilitating the social dialog in public space, this project represents an answer to the challenge launched by " Ne vedem in Sibiu" competition. The project reveals an architectural installation meant to gather people around and to become a landmark of the public sphere, that makes the voice of the city to be heard and the civic spirit to be both educated by and dedicated to the communion and community. Defined by Jurgen Habermas as a place where the public will and opinions are created, the public space is identified as a "sphere of the private people reunited into a public space". The proposed structure presents itself as a meeting space, a landmark of the social dialogue and a symbol of the fight against the corrupt system. Composed of x number of wooden cubes, this is noted by the density of the elements, the number of which suggests the multitude of conscious participants, who see and want to be seen, who hear and want to be heard and who resist more than a year against the atrocities happened in the political sphere. The symbol of the eye, seeing everything, can be noticed in almost every roof of the Sibian houses . Also, this symbol is metaphorically found in this project: both by cutting the voids in the shape that defines the art installtion, and at a more abstract level by cutting the core of the cubes and making a transparent installation , that allows the view to pass beyond. A metaphor of a political nature is materialized into this structure, which highlights the intention of transparency. This is the image of the politics that we all want and which we support. This image provides a specific expression of citizen’s interest in engaging issues of political area. The idea of RELIANCE, is the one that gave shape to the project. This is found at both structural and abstract / metaphorical level; we support each other and together we form a strong, dominant structure of the public space that opposes the resistance of the corrupted system.Each cube (human) plays it’s role within the rigid and resistant structure in front of the external actions, because only together, with the involvement of all, we can make a change. The structure is easily removable and very flexible ,therefore it can endure changes due to the way it is designed. There is the possibility of supplement the seats by introducing into the cubical frames, some cubes that can be positioned anywhere on the site, providing free space for any kind of dialogue.

Graduates from the Faculty of Architecture "G.M. Cantacuzino”, currently architects in Iaşi, we describe ourselves as a young and enthusiastic team with the same visions about architecture and with great expectations regarding the future projects we will be working on. Our passion about art and design, the concern for the quality of romanian built space are the reasons why we participate in most of architectural events. We consider that the participation at competitions is a good way to test and stimulate our creative spirit. In projects we are always looking for solutions that give value and sense to the spaces, and which adapt to the context in which they will be implemented. In our design work, the main purpose is to create spaces that bring joy and inspiration to people who live within them.
